Tributes to Clare College cox Rebecca Chamberlin

It is with great sadness that British Rowing reports the death of Cambridge University student and British Rowing member Rebecca Chamberlin, following a car crash on Wednesday (18th April).

Rebecca was a third-year English student at Clare College, and coxed for the senior men鈥檚 crew.

Tributes have been paid to the 21-year-old over the weekend, with Professor Tony Badger, Master at Clare College, calling Rebecca a 鈥榙elight to teach鈥.

鈥淥ur thoughts are with her family and all her friends at this very sad time,鈥 he told www.cambridge-news.co.uk.

鈥淩ebecca made a huge impression on all the teachers, staff and colleagues who knew her. She was an excellent student of English, who was a delight to teach and extremely popular.

鈥淪he was much-loved by her fellow students,鈥 Professor Badger added, 鈥渁nd was just a delightful and giving presence in the college community.

鈥淲e will miss her so very much, and will do all we can to support each other during the coming weeks.鈥

Rebecca was travelling to a rowing training camp when the collision occurred on the M40, in which three other members of Clare College BC sustained minor injuries.

鈥淪he was a lovely, vivacious girl who had an excellent rapport with her team,鈥 said Ruth Howlett, women鈥檚 captain of Champion of the Thames Rowing Club – which shares a boat house with Clare College BC.

鈥淪he was very bright and was gorgeous 鈥 it is very sad.鈥
