Experienced and emerging talent to row for Great Britain

Team Selected for World Rowing Under 19 Championships

Thirty-seven athletes and thirteen coaches and support staff will be representing Great Britain at the 2025 World Rowing Under 19 Championships (WRU19CH), taking place from 6-10 August in Trakai, Lithuania.

Selected for his third U19 World Championship vest and bringing the most experience to the squad, is Alp Karadogan. Alp has previously won a silver medal in U19 Men’s four in 2024 and a gold medal in the U19 Men’s eight in 2023. He will race in the Men’s pair in Trakai with Patrick Wild who was also in the silver medal winning Men’s four in 2024.

Another seven athletes are returning to the squad from 2024. They are Men’s single sculler Joe Wellington; half of the Men’s four, Eddie Bayfield and Elam Hughes (2024 U19 World Champions in Men’s eight); the Women’s double sculls, Emily Nicholas and Catherine Gardner (2024 silver medal winners in the Women’s four and Women’s quadruple sculls respectively) and half of the women’s four, Sophie Haisman and Amelia Westbrook (2024 silver winners in the Women’s eight).

The team also includes two athletes with a strong family pedigree in rowing. Eve Pinsent, daughter of four-time Olympic champion Sir Matthew Pinsent and Luca Hunt-Davis, son of Sydney 2000 Olympic Champion in the Men’s eight, Ben Hunt Davis MBE, will both be making their GB U19 World debuts racing in the women’s eight and men’s eight respectively.

Commenting on the selection, John Layng, GBRT U19s Team Manager said: “This is a talented group of individuals who, since the end of our final testing at Crew Formation, have been training hard with their respective coaches with a single aim: to make their boat go as fast as possible.

“We are fortunate to be able to rely on the experience of nine team members who are returning from last year’s Championships who will be able to pass on what they learned in Canada to the rest of the team, who will be representing GB on the World stage for the first time in their rowing careers.

“I am looking forward to seeing these 18 young men and 19 young women racing hard to achieve their best placing in their respective finals.

“Thanks are due to all of the clubs, schools and coaches that have supported these rowers throughout this season, as well as during the current preparation period; without their support our team would not be ready to race in Lithuania.”
